Why does Barnet Council hate Football so much?

Posted on 7:29pm Thursday 2nd October 2008

I grew up with three local football clubs of note on my doorstep. Edgware Town, Hendon FC and Barnet FC. I well remember Hendon entertaining the mighty Newcastle in a famous 1970's match. Edgware Town was a focus of much local merriment and community related activities over the years. Barnet FC have even made it to the football league, recently playing the mighty Manchester United in the League cup. Are the local council proud of this? No. What do they think about this? Read on if you love football and want to cry.

Speedboats, Stillettos, Swimsuits and Champagne - Sounds good to me

Posted on 6:57pm Wednesday 1st October 2008

What do you want to protect those nearest and dearest from. What really worries you? Have you ever seen an advert and thought "That should be banned"? Have you ever subsequently read that people objected but the complaints were thrown out. Being an ageing punk rocker, who sometimes writes rather naughty songs, I am militantly anti censorship. I tend to think that unless an advert is promoting something dangerous, it should be allowed. End of story. So what has got my goat up?

Would you rather live next door to a Brothel or a Pub?

Posted on 8:00pm Monday 29th September 2008

My mother-in-law just asked me "Have you heard the news?". Not knowing what she meant I said "What news?" She then told me that the police have recently raided two brothels in Mill Hill. It appears that I walk past both of them most days (not that I'd noticed). I'm not surprised though. When I left school I worked in a brothel for 6 weeks. Before you ask, I was working there as a painter and decorator and I was paid in cash, not kind !!! Let me tell you a little bit about what I learned.

Barnet Homes - the dream and the reality

Posted on 9:38am Sunday 28th September 2008

In a previous blog, I asked if someone from Barnet Homes could please explain to me what value the organisation adds. I asked what benefit we all received from having democratic control of the housing stock removed. Well it seems that no one from Barnet Homes has bothered to comment. I did however get a visit from one of the original directors (now resigned) who took the trouble to explain. Let me share the dream and the reality with you.

Why do depressed old soldiers in cashmere cardigans love Dennis Signy

Posted on 8:39pm Saturday 27th September 2008

As I write this I'm sure Dennis Signy is sitting back and enjoying a few celebratory sherbets. It's 8pm and Barnet FC have just chalked up their first win of the season. In his latest blog detailing the tribulations of being a Barnet FC fan in desperate times, he mentioned his Blog's new found fan club. I was intrigued. What sort of person is a Dennis Signy groupie? Here's what my research uncovered.

Barnet Homes - Too Much Monkey Business - A guide to our largest social housing provider

Posted on 6:00pm Thursday 25th September 2008

There is an old saying "If you pay Peanuts you get Monkeys". Politicians use this old adage time and again to justify outrageous increases in their wages and allowances. The question is "Do they have a point". A quick browse of the Barnet Homes website certainly tells me they may. Here's why, in my little potted guide to our biggest local social housing provider.

Boris Johnson - Bendy Buses? More like bendy policies.

Posted on 6:00pm Tuesday 23rd September 2008

I just listened to our mayor, Boris Johnson on the Vanessa Feltz phone in. It seems that Boris is rather less keen than his predecessor to be grilled by Londoners. Vanessa pointed out that Ken turned up once a month, come rain or shine. This is the first time Boris has been in, after 4 months. What did he have to say?

Gig updates & Mike Freer's secret admirer !!!!!

Posted on 9:38pm Monday 22nd September 2008

Well I've picked up a bit of a lurgy, but have managed to drag myself off my deathbed to let you all know that there are some fine gigs coming up this week. Before we get to that though, I thought I'd share a little incident that will make you laugh (if you don't want to read my inane waffle and just want to find out about the gigs, skip down to below the dotted line).

Barnet Council - the Tory solution to beating the credit Crunch?

Posted on 8:59am Sunday 21st September 2008

Barnet is a suburb full of commuters. Many of bank account, I pay it. I don't have a curry or go to the pub that week. I tighten my belt. If I notice I can save £10 on my shopping by going to a different shop, thats what I do, then maybe I can go to the pub. It's really not that hard.

Discrimination, Homophobia - the truth is what matters most

Posted on 9:26pm Saturday 20th September 2008

My worst month ever was January 1985. January is never a good month for me, but 1985, well that was special. Kevin, my good mate reminded me of it recently, everything was going wrong. Let me tell you why.
