The Mayor of Barnet will take part in an official flag-raising this weekend to mark the handover of the Olympics from Beijing to London.
Flags will be raised around the country at the same time in a coordinated ceremony to mark the close of the event in China and the build up to 2012.
In Barnet, the Mayor will raise the flag at Copthall Stadium in Hendon, during the Southern Inter-Counties South of England Athletics meeting.
Councillor John Marshall, the Mayor of Barnet, said: “The 2008 Olympics has already provided us with some scintillating competition and has given us a snapshot of what we can expect when Olympic competition returns to London after 64 years in 2012.
“I am honoured to be taking part in a pan-UK flag raising to mark this very special occasion and hope that some of the athletes taking part in Sunday's event will be taking to the Olympic stage in four years' time.”
