Decomposed puppies found in freezers

1:03pm Thursday 21st August 2008

Three people were arrested last week following the grim discovery by police of nine dead puppies stored in freezers in a Cricklewood flat.

The horror find came as police and RSPCA officers carried out a raid under the dangerous dogs act last Wednesday.

They also seized a pit bull-type dog along with four other dogs who appeared to have suffered from neglect and cruelty.

The bodies of three dead puppies were found in a freezer and a further six found in another freezer which had been switched off. A police spokesman said the six were “in various states of decomposition”.

A 16-year-old boy and two men, both aged 25, were arrested for possession of the pit bull, and the RSPCA are investigating other cruelty and neglect offences.

All three have been released on bail to return to a north London police station in October pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Shannon Farthing of Childs Hill ward safer neighbourhoods team, who took part in the raid, said, “The operation was a success and was a fantastic example of different teams from across the met and outside agencies working in partnership to achieve a great result.

“The search was conducted under difficult circumstances with members of the local criminal network attempting to hamper the search who were dealt with by the PCSOs present. The finding of the decomposing puppies was particularly stressful for all officers present.”
