A man caught kerb crawling told a court he did not realise prostitution was illegal.
Ahmed Hassan, of Chichele Road, Cricklewood, was arrested for trying to pick up prostitutes in Northampton and later charged by police.
The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to soliciting a person for the purpose of prostitution in the town centre.
Defending himself at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Monday, Hassan claimed he did not realise prostitution was illegal.
He was ordered to pay a fine of £50 which included the prosecution costs of £35 and a victim surcharge of £15.
A Finchley man will be sentenced today after pleading guilty to supplying cocaine.
