Plenty to learn about planning
5:57pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
What's the difference between a town centre renewal plan and a strategic review? This was the question that galvanised and provoked the 30 or so stalwarts attending the June meeting of Chipping Barnet Residents' Forum.

Forum flack is absurd
5:56pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
Nagus Narenthira's criticisms of the Residents' Forum for its alleged lack of democracy are absurd (Forums lack democracy', Times Opinion, June 12).

Council not playing ball
5:55pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
So volunteer football coach Giuliano Orrico has been threatened with legal action by big, bad, bullying Barnet Council for the heinous crime of trying to make the derelict Pavilion Way sports pitch fit for its intended use by young people (Coach told to stop using the field of his dreams', Times Series, June 26).

Not what the doctor ordered
5:55pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
As a GP in Barnet, I am always interested in what Charles Hollwey, the Barnet Primary Care Trust (PCT) chief executive, has to say (GPs are here to stay', Times Series, June 26).

Permits are electioneering
5:54pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
I read Residents' parking permits to be given to spritual leaders', (Times Series, June 26) with incredulity.

Where do people fit into nightmarish plans?
5:52pm Thursday 3rd July 2008
New Barnet residents have recently seen plans for the dramatic redevelopment of their area by both Tesco and Asda. The idea of supermarket chains becoming our town planners, and the council's apparent willingness to see this happen, fills me with alarm.

Get serious for cycling
8:18am Sunday 29th June 2008
I was glad to hear the Greenacre Bicycle Rally was such a success with 138 cyclists of all ages taking part (Biking to promote sustainable travel', Times Series, June 19).

MP pampered PM’s ego
1:12pm Saturday 28th June 2008
I was disgusted to hear that Rudi Vis, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, knew that Labour's 42-days detention without charge was wrong yet he abstained (Vis: I couldn't deliver another blow to Brown'', Times Series, June 19).

Support the market stalls
8:16am Saturday 28th June 2008
I read the letter from Ron Isaacs last week (Save Barnet market now', Times Opinion, June 19) and found myself in total agreement with the need to keep this market open.

New clinics are scary
8:14am Saturday 28th June 2008
Polyclinics may not scare Pierre Jeanmaire (Polyclinics are not so scary', Times Opinion, June 19). Well they frighten the pants off me. So does the thought of putting Lord Darzi in charge of the current review of primary care.
