Edgware Town 4 Kingsbury Town 1
Associate Members Trophy

Former Hull City star Junior Lewis made his debut as Edgware romped to a comfortable win against their local rivals at the White Lion Ground on Tuesday night.

But it was the two Blackburne brothers who stole the limelight.

Rob performed well in goal to keep the visitors at bay, while Stuart caused havoc in attack.

It was the latter's pace that earned the Wares a penalty on 14 minutes, which Lee Gardner converted to put the hosts in front.

David Kenny rocked the bar for the visitors before a long throw from Rob Blackburne sent his brother away again and the striker made no mistake.

Jon Castagnette was putting some decisive passes through for his forwards to run on to and it was an almost pinpoint ball to Stuart Blackburne that allowed him to score his second on 40 minutes.

The Wares were now firing on all cylinders and, only a couple of minutes later, Stuart Blackburne sent Paul Marks on his way and he fired in a fourth from an almost impossible angle.

Kingsbury hit a late consolation but it could not detract from a fine opening performance.

The signing of Wembley-born Junior Lewis is a major coup for the Wares.

Lewis, a midfielder, has played for a number of Football League clubs, including Gillingham, Leicester City, Fulham, Brighton, Swindon and Hull City. The 31-year-old, who has made more than 160 League appearances, was released by Hull manager Peter Taylor earlier this month.

Edgware make the short trip to Wembley for another AMT clash on Bank Holiday Monday.
